It all begins within the definition. Refinishing implies, to spray or paint a new finish to a surface or object. In other words, it is a cosmetic application. However, recasting gives an object a new enamel casting, therefore truly restoring and resurfacing an object.
For example, a cast iron tub has seen a better day. The enamel has chipped from years of hard use. Rust stains won’t come out, dirt and grime caught within a small network of spidering cracks. What are the options?
- Replace it? You could, but wow, is that expensive.
- Refinish it? Affordable, but would need to hire someone. Looks great when it is done, but why is it peeling already (1-5 years later). Oh, yeah, and it is an entirely toxic operation that will make you, the installer, and your renter sick if not ventilated during and after the procedure
- Recast it! Affordable. Hire someone or make it very cost-effective and do it yourself—products like Ekopel 2k last 10-20 years. A recast does not peel. It Improves the integrity of the tub. There are eco-friendly and safe products. No texture completely smooth looks brand new.
What is this magical solution? Ekopel 2k is one such application. It dries 1/8″ thick. Sand smooth and pour. Microfractures filled, chips filled, porcelain slick, and durable. You won’t even recognize the tub. Ekopel is a bathtub in a can!
